Busy Sports Saturday

Today was filled with sports…  I watched most of the Florida vs. Alabama SEC Championship game.  Then I sacrificed some of my life watching Mizzou play Oklahoma in the Big12 Championship game.  I’m being generous with the term “play.”  As I expected and hoped against, Mizzou just isn’t ready for that upper echelon team yet.  They were embarrassed 62-21 in their final regular season game of the year.  Their next game will be some also-ran bowl game versus a team they should beat.  Ending up 10-4 will still be a good accomplishment, but far from the lofty goals they had set their sights on before the season started.

After football, we watched some boxing as Oscar De La Hoya fought Manny Pacquiao.  Oscar is the much bigger fighter but came in a pound smaller than Manny which surprised everyone.  After the first round, it was apparent who was going to win unless some unforseen punch landed and changed the outcome in a blink of an eye.  Well, Oscar failed to rise to the occassion and was completely dismantled for 8 rounds and he quit on the stool before the 9th round began.  He was nothing more than a sparring partner for a much better fighter.

So, Saturday turned out ok for me.  I wanted Florida to win and I wanted Manny to win.  But, I also wanted Mizzou to win but I’m a realistic fan so the loss was expected – even the score.  I seem to remember mentioning something about a tidal wave of points being scored against them…
